Fish Eye Sweet and Salty Snack Mix

We’re big fans of snack mixes around here. The boys -when they go to the grocery store with me- will point out various things and proclaim them to be ‘good snack mix material’. We don’t buy them because snack mixes at the store are almost invariably horrendously over priced for wee little bags or jars that wouldn’t even feed a third of us. We prefer to buy normal, reasonable sizes of the individual ingredients and put them together in our own way yielding Foodie with Family sized amounts. Usually, our combinations tend to lean toward salty and savoury because, well, I’m the cook and that’s what I like.

These guys of mine, however, prefer to nosh on a sweet and salty (heavy on the sweet, please) mixture. Since we’re doing the ‘mixing’ bit ourselves, I can customize it to be however they like, and what you see above is their current favourite: Fish Eye Sweet and Salty Snack Mix. Gross name, right? (Come on, folks. Tell them it’s gross. They absolutely live for grossing people out and this name was their own invention.) Get it? Gold fish and round things? Fish eyes? Did they reel you in with that one?

What you’re looking at is a perfectly-balanced-for-my-boys combo of Cookies and Cream Goldfish*, Pretzel Goldfish (the salt!), chocolate covered raisins, and yogurt covered raisins. Can we talk about the fill-in-the-blank covered raisins for a moment? I have TWO children who like to eat raisins out of hand. Munch munch. I have FIVE -count ’em 5 out of 5- children who like to eat chocolate or yogurt covered raisins. Explain this to me! No. Never mind. I don’t even care why. I’m just going to keep letting them eat the {sugar coated} raisins and call it a victory.

*Oh my word, people. Have you tried these yet? If you haven’t, please drop everything, go to the store, and grab a bag. On second thought, grab several bags. You’re going to want to build up a stash of these. My guys and I thought they tasted just like Oreos. How can that be bad, I ask you?

You are also looking at what may be the easiest to make AND sell bake-sale offering of all time. It takes you MAYBE five minutes to make up a huge batch, another five or ten minutes to package it (depending on how fancy-pants you get with containers, labels and decorations), and you are el-done-o. If you saw this at a Bake Sale, wouldn’t you bite hook, line and sinker? (I’m sorry. Fishing puns are just too easy!) What’s your favourite snack mix?

Chocolatey, sweet, and salty, this snack mix with two kinds of Goldfish crackers is sure to please kids-of-all-ages.

Ingredients

  

• 1 bag Pretzel Goldfish 8 ounces
• 1 bag Cookies and Cream Goldfish 6.6 ounces
• 1 bag Chocolate Covered Raisins 8 ounces
• 1 bag Yogurt Covered Raisins 8 ounces

Instructions

 

• Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and transfer to an airtight container. This mixture is good stored at room temperature for up to 14 days.
