I am the sole non-fan in a household full of football maniacs. I mean, they just plain love football in general. They will pick a team in any match up and cheer, yodel, and holler themselves hoarse through the entire game. Me? I’m a big lover of finger foods and tailgating recipes, so I find my solace in providing and partaking in the best football grub I can possibly make.
I know beer is the usual football beverage accompaniment, but since I’m already thinking outside of the box when it comes to viewing (as in, I’m out of the room making snacks while they’re IN the room watching the game), I’m going to go ahead and say that sometimes you have to shake things up a bit.
I love a good beer, but I think cocktails are just what Monday Night Football ordered. While I’m not a football aficionado, I am most certainly a lover of The Big Lebowski. So I like to slide a little of what I love into the football culture of my home. While I’ve always liked the idea of Dude-esque White Russian cocktails, I also felt like they sat a little heavy on the old stomach with all that cream. The Anna Kournikova, on the other hand (or Skinny White Russian Cocktail- made with skim milk) was nice in concept, but a little anemic when it came to body and taste. Enter Silk Almondmilk to the rescue. My Silk Anna Kournikova {Skinny White Russian Cocktail} is a dairy-free version of the classic cocktail and tastes so much better it’s a little silly. Silk Almondmilk lends a fullness of body and, well, silky texture (like you would get from cream, but better for you) to the cocktail. I think even The Dude would love these.
Cook’s Notes
- This is about as simple as it gets. You fill a nice glass with ice, pour in the vodka, then the coffee liqueur, give a quick stir, and then you have a choice. You can pour the Silk Almondmilk directly in and let it swirl and mix itself -OR- you can pretty things up a bit and float the Silk Almondmilk over the top as pictured above before grating chocolate over the top and stirring slowly. To do that, you simply pour the Silk Almondmilk slowly over the top of an inverted spoon that is as close to the surface of the drink as possible. I have a spoon on which I’ve bent the handle just for jobs such as these. It’s strictly optional, but I think it looks nice!
- It’s clear that I’ve added Silk Almondmilk in a larger amount than you normally would use of cream when making a regular White Russian. This is because I like it. A lot. If you want to go a little lighter on the creaminess, you can certainly back off.The traditional White Russian just has a little cap of cream on top. Make it to YOUR tastes.
