Simple, comforting, and delicious, this buttermilk biscuit topped sausage gravy casserole makes starting the day a delight. It's so easy you can assemble it half asleep!

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 pan or several smaller individual baking dishes
  • 1 half sheet pan
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 4 cup capacity liquid measuring cup
  • 1 Silicone Spatula or Spoonula

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450ºF. See notes for air fryer instructions.
  • Spread the sausage gravy in a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish or divide evenly between smaller casseroles, cocottes, or other oven safe dishes. Dot the top of the gravy with the biscuit dough using a 3-tablespoon cookie scoop other measuring device that will hold a scant quarter cup.
  • When using a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish, make three dollops across the width and four dollops down the length; you want 12 biscuits. When using individual sized baking dishes, make two mounds of biscuit dough on top.
  • You should be able to see gravy between the dollops of biscuit dough. This leaves room for the biscuits to expand while baking.
  • Place the casserole or smaller dishes on a rimmed baking sheet and transfer them to the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the gravy is bubbling hot and the biscuits are set, fluffy, and deeply golden brown on top.
  • Remove the pans from the oven and let set for 3-5 minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with minced chives, green onions, or fresh parsley.
  • Serve either in the individual baking dishes or scooped into bowls.
